The Israelites set out from Egypt and travelled through the desert. They were armed for battle. During the day the Lord showed them which way to go by a pillar of cloud which went on in front of them. At night a pillar of fire went ahead of them and gave them light. In this way they were able to travel both in the day time and in the night time.

Then the King of Egypt said,"What have we done?" We have let the Israelites escape. We have lost our slaves."
He got his war chariots and his army ready. They chased after the Israelites and caught up with them near the Red Sea.
When the Israelites saw this they said, "Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in the desert?
Didn't we tell you before we left that this would happen?"
"We told you to leave us alone and let us go on being slaves of the Egyptians It would be better to be slaves than to die here in the desert."
Moses said,"Do not be afraid.Stand your ground and you will see what the Lord will do to save you."
