Moses part 3        The Plagues

Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said,"The God of Israel says,'Let my people go'."

Pharaoh said,"I do not know the Lord. I will not let Israel go."

He told the taskmasters not to give the slaves any straw to make bricks but to let them gather straw for themselves.

He said that they must work harder and produce the same number of bricks. It was very difficult to find much straw and when they could not make the same number of bricks he had some of them flogged.

Moses prayed to God for help.  God said,"Pharaoh will let you go. I will rescue you from slavery". He told Moses what to say to Pharaoh.

Moses first warned Pharaoh that the water of the Nile would turn blood red.  The Nile did turn blood red, the fish died and no one could drink the water.

Pharaoh did not listen.

Moses warned Pharaoh that there would be a plague of frogs. He said,"They will come up out of the river into your houses and into your bedrooms. They will get into your beds and they will walk all over you."

When all this happened Pharaoh said to Moses, "I will let you go but please ask God to take away the frogs." Moses prayed to God and the plague ended but Pharaoh changed his mind and would not let them go.

Next there was a plague of gnats. We all know what gnats or midges are like . They keep on biting people. This plague must have been very nasty but Pharaoh still would not listen

Moses warned of a plague of flies. These got everywhere. They went into the Pharaoh's palace and the houses of Egyptian officials. In some places the ground was covered with them.

Pharaoh said he would let the Israelites go if only Moses would ask God to get rid of the flies. Moses did this. All the flies disappeared but Pharaoh did not keep his promise. He changed his mind and he would not let the Israelites go.

Moses warned that the sheep, cattle and camels would take ill and die. This happened  but Pharaoh would not let the people go.

Next many of the Egyptians suffered from boils. They had sores all over their bodies. Pharaoh did not listen.

Moses warned of a hailstorm which could kill animals and damage crops. Many of the Egyptians brought their animals in doors for safety. When the hail started Pharaoh promised Moses that his people could leave if he would ask God to stop the hail.  Moses prayed to God and the storm stopped.
