The Centurion brought him to the commandant, and said,"The prisoner asked me to bring this man to you; he has something to tell you."
The commandant said, "What is it that you have to report?"
The young man said, "The Jews have made a plan. They will ask you to bring Paul to their Council tomorrow. Do not listen to them. More than forty men will lie in wait and they will kill him."
The commander said, "Do not tell anyone that you have told me about this."
He called to two Centurions and said, "Get ready 200 foot soldiers and 2 horses so Paul may ride. Take him safely to the governor in Caesarea."
At this time the land was governed by the Romans. The governor was called Felix. The commandant was called Claudias Lysias.
He wrote this letter :
Claudias Lysias to his Excellency the Governor Felix.
The Jews seized this man and they were going to kill him. I came with soldiers and stopped them. I tried to find out why they wanted to kill him. They said that he had broken their law but I found that he had done nothing terrible. He should not be put to death or sent to prison. I have learned that there is a plot to kill him so I am sending him to you at once.
