Saul was not content with persecuting the Christians in Jerusalem. He wanted to catch the Christians in other places as well. He went to the High Priest and asked him to write letters to the Synagogues in Damascus. These letters gave Saul permission to arrest any Christians he found there and bring them to Jerusalem. Saul then set out on his journey to Damascus. He had nearly reached Damascus when a light flashed from the sky all round him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say,"Saul, Saul, Why are you persecuting me?" " Tell me, Lord, who you are." The voice answered,"I am Jesus,whom you are persecuting. But get up and go into the city and you will be told what to do."

The men who were with Saul were so frightened they could not speak. They heard the voice but could not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground but when he opened his eyes he could not see. The men took his hand and led him into Damascus. He was blind for 3 days and did not eat or drink anything.
