There was a man called Ananias who was a disciple of Jesus. He lived in Damascus. He had a vision and in that vision he heard the voice of the Lord call, "Ananias".  "Here I am, Lord," he said.

Saul and Ananias

The Lord said, "Go at once to the house of Judas in Straight Street. Ask for a man called Saul. He is from Tarsus. You will find him praying. He has had a vision of a man called Ananias coming to make him see again."

Ananias answered, "Lord I have heard about this man and all the harm he has done to those who believe in you. He has permission from the chief priests to arrest all those who speak about you."

But the Lord said,"You must go because I have chosen him to go to other countries and tell their people and their kings about me.  I will show him what he must do."

So Ananias went to Judas's house and spoke to Saul. He said, "Saul, my brother, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on your way here, has sent me to you so that you may  recover your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit."Immediately, Saul could see again. It seemed to him that scales covering his eyes had fallen off.He started eating again and soon he was strong once more. Soon he went into the synagogues and started telling everyone about Jesus and saying that Jesus was the Son of God.  The people were amazed. They said, "Is this not the man who came here to arrest all those who said they believed in Jesus."

Some of them argued with Saul but he showed them that what he said was right. Some of them became his enemies. They made a plan to kill Saul.

Now the city of Damascus had a wall all the way around it . There were gates in the wall. Saul's enemies watched the gates all day and all night. They intended to kill Saul as soon as they saw him going out.
