We do not know how it happened but somehow Saul found out about his enemies' plans to kill him.
One night his new friends got a very large basket and fixed ropes to it. They went to the city wall.
Saul got into the basket and his friends carefully lowered him to the ground outside the city.
Saul then travelled away from Damascus and went to Jerusalem. He went to meet the disciples of Jesus who lived there. At first they were very frightened of him.
They did not think that Saul had really become a follower of Jesus but that it was all a trick to find all who followed Jesus and to put them in prison. But Barnabas told them how Saul had heard Jesus's voice on the road to Damascus and how he had spoken out and told the people there about Jesus.
The disciples believed Barnabas, so Saul joined them and stayed with them. He went out and once again began telling people about Jesus. In Jerusalem there were a lot of people who spoke Greek. Saul could speak Greek so he was able to tell them about Jesus.
Some people did not like what Saul said. They did not want to follow Jesus. They made a plan to murder Saul. Some of Jesus's followers heard about this so they took him away to Caeserea. From there Saul travelled to Tarsus.
