 Jesus and St Andrew

St.Andrew Andrew is the patron Saint of Scotland. What do you know about him? He is mentioned a few times in the Bible. The first story tells us how Andrew was called to be one of Jesus first disciples. ( Matthew Chapter 4 v18-20)

Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee when he saw Andrew and his brother Peter. They were catching fish with a huge net called a casting net. They threw it into the sea and then pulled it back with the fish that they had caught in it. Jesus said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." He meant that they must catch men and bring them into the Kingdom of God.

Andrew now had a new job. It was to tell people about Jesus and about God.

The feeding of the five thousand. (John Chapter 6 v 1-13)

Andrew is mentioned specially in this story.

Jesus had done many miracles and healed many people. A crowd of people followed him so they could watch what he was doing. It was near the start of the Feast of the Passover but the people had nothing to eat. Andrew told Jesus that a boy in the crowd had five loaves of bread  and two small fishes.

Jesus asked the disciples to make the people sit down on the grass.  He gave thanks and broke up the loaves and fishes. He handed them to his disciples. The disciples handed them out to the people in the crowd. The people all had plenty to eat.

Then Jesus asked his disciples to gather up all the food which was left. There was enough to fill twelve baskets.

The people thought that Jesus was a great prophet.

What happened after Jesus had risen from the dead (Act Chapter 1)

The book of Acts is the part of the Bible that tells us what the disciples did after Jesus had been crucified and had risen from the dead. It tells us that Andrew was there when the disciples started telling the people about Jesus and about God.
